This is a driving force behind the installation of managed Ethernet switches and the deployment of a network redundancy solution  The Device Level Ring (DLR) redundancy mechanism realizes recovery times of less than three milliseconds in the event of a network failure and is heavily promoted for EtherNet/IP applications. DLR ensures nearly bump-less switch-over times and is supported by many current two-port EtherNet/IP field devices, which can be networked in a ring topology using DLR. Additionally, in many non-EtherNet/IP  topologies, such as networking wind turbines, a redundancy mechanism is required to enable switching over as fast as possible in the event of an error. One of the major decisions facing any control system integrator is whether to "hire" or "contract" with key personnel. Choosing to hire is certainly the more inclusive route, but it carries with it a host of legal obligations. While the obligations may be fewer if the label "independent contractor" is chosen instead, the labels are less important than the actuality. In other words, what your company may call an "independent contractor" may be the government's idea of an employee. The Risk Control Hierarchy (RCH) in the ANSI-Z10 standard provides electrical safety professionals with an excellent roadmap for setting the right safety objectives that result in the reduction of electrical risks.  Combining our understanding of electricity with our principles of safety is the key to improving electrical safety.  For example, when a Department of Energy electrical safety program is analyzed under the light of the RCH, many potential electrical safety improvements begin to jump off the page.  The RCH not only helps improve a plant electrical safety program, but it also inspires manufacturers to improve their electrical equipment designs.  Lastly, the RCH provides a means to measure the effectiveness of an electrical safety initiative much the same way a project manager uses financial measurements (Return on Investment or Payback Analysis) to evaluate a project.
