Master Class: Integrator-to-Integrator (i2i)

Master Class: Integrator-to-Integrator (i2i)  Series – Solving for Transformation with Automation Software and Edge Computing

Sponsored by:

CSIA teamed up with Stratus Technologies to showcase how top performing integrators architect and deploy transformational solutions for end users and machine builders. You will see methodologies and case studies demonstrating how modern engineers are transforming operations with Rockwell Automation, AVEVA, GE Digital and/or Inductive Automation software stacks on Stratus’ Edge Computing platforms.

Part 1: Up-Leveling Design and Deployment for Terminal Automation and Pharmaceutical Applications

Featuring
Date: Wednesday, January 27, 2021

Time: 10 a.m. Central

Duration: 45 Minutes

Join Tim Shope, Avid Solutions’ Director of Digital Transformation, as he shares his extensive experience designing and deploying hardware/software solutions for customers. Tim will walk through why he advocates for “setting a spec” in specific ways to ensure operational excellence in case studies involving a terminal automation and pharmaceutical skid builder. He will finish up his presentation by sharing where he sees the market going, and why.

Takeaways for attendees will include:

  • Insights into how to best architect and deploy transformational automation solutions with Rockwell, Inductive Automation and Stratus ztC Edge
  • A look into architecture leveraged for terminal automation and pharmaceutical skid use cases
  • Perspectives on where the market is today, where it’s going in the next 12-24 months and what you can do about it

About the speaker: Tim Shope has over 25 years of process controls and automation experience. His unique and diverse skills as both a customer and vendor afford him an exceptional perspective on delivering value via technology.

He has held leadership roles in Schneider Electric and Rockwell Automation, focusing on presales and consulting engagements in cyber security, process control and automation, safety instrumented systems, migration and modernization disciplines. Prior to Rockwell, he was a staff process control manager for Resolute Forrest Products and performed roles of increasing responsibility inside Honeywell’s Pulp and Paper organization.

He is passionate about performance – particularly when it comes to leveraging technology to deliver process improvements and economic benefits. While risk and obsolescence may be the primary drivers for many automation projects, it is an opportunity to look for areas of improvement in the process, operations and control strategies to deliver incremental value year over year.

Part 2: Engineering Compact Control Systems for High Output in Food Bev, Alternative Energy & Steel

Date: April 28, 2021

Time: 10 am Central

Join Jeff Geiger of Taurus Controls as he shares how his team of seasoned engineers designs and builds high-performing, compact control systems.

Attendees will learn key technical successes Taurus have identified including:

  • How to run multiple industrial software applications without creating technical debt
  • How and why the Taurus team pairs different industrial software applications with Stratus ztC Edge and ftServer for different use cases
  • What to consider when architecting control systems with proven technology like edge computing for different industries like food and beverage, alternative energy and metals

This session will also cover Jeff’s view on where control system architecture is going in the next 12 – 14 months as certain market demands drive customers’ needs.

About the Speaker

Jeff Geiger is director of sales and marketing for Taurus Controls, where he’s been for over 20 years. Prior to Taurus, he spent 13 years at Whatman, Inc, designing and marketing chemical analysis equipment. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in Molecular Biology and Genetics Engineering.

Part 3: How Edge Computing Solutions Converged OT and IT, and Shortened FAT/SAT Cycles for a Life Sciences Customer

Date: December 1, 2021

Time: 10 am Central

Working with a large Life Sciences company, RoviSys, a global automation SI, proposed a fault tolerant Edge Computing solution to increase reliability of the company’s manufacturing operations and GAMP reporting. The solution dramatically simplified IT infrastructure and enabled the OT team to deploy and maintain new infrastructure without on-site IT support. Importantly, RoviSys’ key to success was running a successful PoC and using a solution that reduced FAT/SAT from weeks to days. With the trust built from this success, RoviSys has expanded its end user engagement for additional projects.

Aaron Hoffman, Systems Engineer at RoviSys, will share how the team:

  • Developed an Edge Computing solution to supplant traditional server clusters, improve data reliability, and consolidate software workloads
  • Standardized and scaled computing throughout different Life Sciences facilities and use cases
  • Reduced the test and validation process from weeks to days
  • Summarized the benefits of Edge Computing from an SI’s point-of-view
